Seung-Hwan Oh | On Tumblr

Seung-Hwan Oh works and lives in Seoul, where he was born and raised until moving to New York where he studied film and photography at CUNY Hunter College. His work and practice stem from his interest and approach toward other disciplinary thoughts and ideas, from philosophy to sciences. His most recent work, exhibited at Zaha Museum, was inspired by the notion of the first advent of vision in life on earth, and his current work focuses on implementing microbial growth on film as a means to explore the impermanence of matter as well as the material limitations of photography.

Artist on Tumblr

Kim Kheradmandi aka Kimbo Gruff | on Tumblr (b.1989, UK)

Kim Kheradmandi, aka Kimbo Gruff, is a British/Persian self-taught artist born in Paris and raised in Ipswich, England. Heavily influenced by his experience of growing up in a typical English town, he did street art at a young age and enjoys UK urban culture and making art at night. Kimbo has developed his style over the years by trying out tonnes of ideas in different ways. He is constantly using things around him as sources of inspiration for his work, whether it is visual, sensory or audible, and gains power by staring blankly at nothing in particular. Currently working and living in Amsterdam, he also collaborates and works on projects with local artists, musicians and film makers beside his own artwork. At the end of the year, he plans to move to Berlin to pursue art.

Thanks Kimbo for sharing his experience with us. Kimbo Gruff can be found with updated posts on his Behance, Facebook and on Tumblr. © All images of courtesy the artist

The photography of Phebe Schmidt

Phebe Schmidt is challenging our perception and digestion of the world around us, one pastel-hued, glossy photograph at a time. The Australia native bears a bold, pop style not unlike the work of Toilet Paper and Maurizio Cattelan, among several other influential contemporary photographers, but the driving force behind Schmidt’s work sets her apart (not to mention her cultivation of equally revolting and seductive imagery). She juxtaposes food with gore, disgust with desire, making the repulsive almost sensual, or tangible—we can nearly taste it—and vice versa. Utilizing the imagery and vocabulary of our digital age as her muse, she challenges every socialized norm from gender to beauty, sexuality to the food we consume. Often composed like glossy product shots, Schmidt perverts and interprets our culture as she sees it and spits it back to us. And as we’ve learned so many times before, it can be hard to look in the mirror.

Mild Whistle

Singapore based design studio Oddds created Mild Whistle’s new identity. It stems from a paradox effect surrounded by a combination of funk layering beyond formality. Like a gentle thunder - where two opposites or complexities brings about the designer’s works as it; being louder than what the designer intends.
